COUNTER

The contents of this page is mostly written by a 21 year old former part-time instructor/fresh graduate now turned banker-in-training who has a penchant for complaining and procrastinating. This blog serves as a constructive and productive avenue (or so I fool myself into thinking) during my procrastination spells.

I have been a blogspot blogger since 2006 and have recently moved to tumblr due to html issues with the new blogspot system. My blog had perpetually been where I concretize my thoughts and opinions into a coherent (hopefully) mass of words.

I blog for no one but myself.

Such Crappy Wrath

Wrath of the Titans

Synopsis: Zeus is captured, not to mention tortured, after being tricked into entering Tartarus to  stop the revival of Kronos, the imprisoned Titan. The safety of Zeus and of mankind now lies on the hand of Perseus, demigod and son of Zeus.

Thoughts:  For a movie that employed decent actors like Sam Worthington as Perseus (Jake Sully in Avatar), Ralph Fiennes as Hades (Lord Voldermort!!), and Liam Neeson as Zeus (come on, who does not know him?? -.-), this turned out to be one heck of a crappy movie filled with mythological inaccuracies. Its attempts to inject random humor into the scenes were futile and only made the movie seem cheaper than it already was. I lost count of the number of times I rolled my eyes in frustration and checked the during the whole course of the movie. Heck, I was so bored that I was able to write all of this in the middle of the movie. I guess you really can’t expect much from the sequel of the Clash of the Titans. =/

Rating: 0/5  Definitely not worth watching. I cant even get over the fact that the franchise is getting a third installment. Please. NO MORE. HAVE MERCY. o.o

Coraline  by Neil Gaiman

Summary: (as printed in the back cover)

When Coraline steps through a door to find another house strangely similar yo her own (only better), things seem marvelous.

But there’s another mother there, and another dather, and they want her to stay and be their little girl. They want to change her and never let her go.

Coraline will have to fight with all her wit and courage if she is to save herself and return to her ordinary life.

Thoughts: This was the first Neil Gaiman book I had ever read and I was horribly disappointed. I had high expectations due to his popularity although admittedly I might have chosen a wrong book to gauge his writing prowess since Coraline is intended to be a young adult’s book.I found the story to be immensely bizarre and actually quite frightening. I generally avoid books about the supernatural, ghosts, spirits, and demonic stuff (ie Anne Rice’s Witching Hour) since they simply scare me and give me bad dreams. I finished this book in a hurry since I honestly did not like the feeling it gave me while reading it. In essence, it creeped me out big time.

Rating: 2/5. I have no intention of reading it again. However, I feel that it might just be due to my own aversion towards the type of tale Gaiman had spun. I’m going to give Gaiman another go. I hope next time will be better.

Why in the world do I need to wake up at 5am when work starts at 8:30am?

In what universe did you ever learn how to count?

I hate you.

Banker advise #4

It is no secret that apart from making shopping easy, a credit card’s goal is to lure you into debt. Thus earning money from your credit card interests (those credit card promos don’t pay for themselves you know). It is therefore your duty as the credit card holder to be mindful of what you’re buying and keep track of how much you’ve charged on credit. A lot of banks actually allow you to exceed the credit limit you’ve been granted. This of course comes with a price in the form of, surprise surprise, more charges. Avoid temptation and debt by using credit cards for big ticket purchases like appliances wherein you can enjoy paying in installment with 0% interest. I still firmly believe though that paying in cash is the way to go. The “discounted” price given to customers who pay in cash is actually the original selling price while the “original” price given to plastic swipers is the inflated price to accommodate installment payment.

Best advice: if you currently don’t have cash or liquid deposit items to cover for your credit card purchase, and you’re in the process of praying that by some miracle you’d be able to pay your credit card bill at the next due date; chances are you can’t afford whatever it is you’re trying to buy so just don’t buy it.

Banker advise/rant #3

Do not be such a sore client if it so happens that you are not allowed to open an account (although admittedly I would likewise feel indignant if placed in the same situation). However, there’s no reason for you to cause a scene by loudly proclaiming what a large sum of money you were planning to deposit and what a terribly wrong call it was to reject you. We are perfectly aware that there are other banks that might choose to accommodate you and your attitude. Please bear in mind though that you are not the bank’s only source of deposits what you think might be a great loss for the bank could possibly be unsubstantial. Remember, in terms of money, “large sum/amount” is variable. What may seem large to you might only be another person’s designer shoe budget.

What walking out and talking loudly about what a waste it was not accepting your “large” amount of money would do: Nothing, apart from curious stares. Good luck on not getting mugged. You’ve certainly kept your “large” amount of money a secret.

Banker advise/rant #2

Opening an account is not a right. It is a privilege given by banks to clients they deem are worthy monetary-wise and trustworthiness-wise. Do not be surprised therefore if banks ask for requirements for you to open an account. Do not expect us to know you and believe every single bit of information that pops out of your mouth. There is a need to establish your identity, unless of course you’re a publicly known person but that would altogether be a different situation. The mere fact that you are unaware that such requirements exists and your unwillingness to comply, whether due to laziness, stupidity, or more dubious reasons, suggests that you are not ready to open an account neither are you the type of client a bank is looking for.

What walking out and loudly exclaiming you will not (or will never) open an account in a specific bank: Nothing. Good luck on finding a bank that would not ask you for requirements.
